MATTHEW ALLEN is a Sydney based painter whose recent solo exhibitions include Where you go I go too, Sullivan & Strumpf, Sydney 2013, The Stone of Impermanence, Cite Des Arts Internationale, Paris 2012, Ruminations on the End, Sydney Non Objective, Sydney 2012. Recent Group exhibitions include Contemporary Visions, Beers Lambert, London 2012, Painting as Presence, MOP Gallery, Sydney 2012, A damn good painting show, General Store for Contemporary Art, Sydney 2011. He is the recipient of the Moya Dyring Studio residency at the Cite des Arts Internationale, Paris 2012, A SNO studio residency, 2011, and was granted an APA, 2006 – 2007. The work presented for Low Relief responds to the notion of the void (empty/blank label) by using International Klein Blue (the colour of the void par excellence) and a recursive framing device to generate pictorial depth. The artist is represented by Sullivan + Strumpf, Sydney.
